How we got this data
We collected this data with the Ujeebu web scraping API, which fetches and renders public pages and returns the fields we need as structured data. The same API is available to you for your own collections.

Methodology and known limits
What we priced. 25 candies from the yearly most-popular Halloween candy lists, 13 chocolate and 12 not. For each, we looked for the bags and packs people buy to hand out: fun size, snack size, miniatures, and bags of wrapped or loose pieces such as Tootsie Rolls, Dum Dums or candy corn. Single bars, king size, sharing-size bags of loose candy, theater boxes and multi-bag cases are left out, and so are packs under 2 oz, which hold a single piece. Nerds had no listing that fit, so the chart has 24 candies.
Where. The public product pages of Walgreens, Dollar General and Dollar Tree, found through Google results for each candy and store and collected with the Ujeebu web scraping API on Oct 4, 2026: 233 product pages, 99 listings kept. We read the price shown to a visitor who is not signed in, with no store chosen, and the net weight on the listing. Multi-buy deals (2 for $3) count at the single-unit price; coupons and loyalty prices are not included. Listings shown as out of stock keep their listed price. Each kept listing was checked by hand against the candy and the format rules.
What we counted. Price per ounce is the price divided by the net weight. A candy's value is the median across its listings at the three stores. The store columns show each store's cheapest option per ounce for that candy, and the store comparisons use only the candies both stores carry.
Context. The price trend comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics consumer price index for candy and chewing gum (US city average, not seasonally adjusted), not from our collection.
Known limits
- One day of online prices at three retailers, Oct 4, 2026. Prices in stores, at other retailers and after Halloween markdowns differ.
- Walmart, Target, Kroger and CVS are not in this edition.
- Prices can vary by store; we read what each site showed without a chosen store.
- A candy's median depends on where it is sold: M&M's Milk Chocolate and Starburst were found at Walgreens only, the priciest of the three stores, which raises their medians.
- Some candies rest on one or two listings; the Listings column shows how many.
- Price per ounce does not count pieces: a bag of light pieces can hand out more treats per dollar than its price per ounce suggests.
