Google AI Mode API

Which scraping APIs return Google AI Mode answers, what one response actually holds, and what 1,000 answers cost, from our own calls and 30-minute probes.

Short answerUpdated

SerpApi, DataForSEO, ScrapeBadger, Bright Data, Oxylabs and Ujeebu all return Google AI Mode results through an API; Ujeebu does it with search_type=ai on its SERP endpoint for 5 credits, which is $0.82 to $0.33 per 1,000 answers on monthly plans. One call returns the answer text, the answer split into paragraph and list blocks, and the pages Google cited; in 849 checked probe responses between October 14 and November 1, 2026, the text was always present and citations came back in 91.3%. DataForSEO is cheaper if you can wait 45 minutes for its standard queue ($1.20 per 1,000); SerpApi costs $25 to $5.90 per 1,000 searches depending on the plan.

Disclosure: Ujeebu publishes this page and sells one of the APIs on it. Our numbers come from our own calls and monitoring; competitor prices link to their pages.

The question

Which scraping API supports Google AI Mode results?

Google AI Mode is the chat-style answer page at google.com/search?udm=50. It is not the same thing as Google AI Overviews, the summary box above ordinary results. An API that supports AI Mode sends your query to that page and gives you the answer and its sources as data.

We track this exact question in our AI Citation Index. Between October 5 and October 30, 2026, ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews answered it 26 times. SerpApi was named in 25 of the 26 answers, Oxylabs and DataForSEO in 13 each, Bright Data in 11 and Scrapingdog in 7. Ujeebu was named in none, which is one reason this page exists. The pages the answers cited most were serpapi.com (22 citations) and dataforseo.com (21).

Ujeebu returns AI Mode on the same /serp endpoint as web, news, images, videos, Maps and jobs. You switch to it with one parameter, search_type=ai, and the call is billed like any other search: 5 credits when Google returns an answer, nothing when the request fails.

Real response

What a Google AI Mode API response holds

Three fields carry the answer. answer_text is the whole answer as flat text. text_blocks is the same answer split into typed blocks (paragraph or list), which is what you want for rendering or for counting how often a brand appears in a list. citations lists the pages Google linked, each with title, link, source and origin: "card" for the source cards beside the answer and "inline" for links inside the text. is_complete tells you whether Google finished writing the answer.

Use text_blocks rather than answer_text when you parse lists. In the call below, Google rendered each list item with a bold label, and answer_text carries every item twice (once with the label run into the text, once split into lines), while text_blocks keeps each item once. The source field is also uneven: it held a site name in 55.9% of the citations we checked, and an empty string or a stray separator in the rest, so derive the domain from link.

Our monitoring

How reliable is a Google AI Mode API? What we measured

Our health check sends an AI Mode query every 30 minutes, rotating four questions (how solar panels work, what a vector database is, what web scraping is, why the sky is blue), and checks every field of the response against a field contract.

Price

Google AI Mode API price per 1,000 answers

Normalized to 1,000 AI Mode answers at each vendor's published entry price and best volume price. Ujeebu bills 5 credits per answer from the same credit pool as scraping, so the per-answer price follows the plan.

Limits

Limits of Google AI Mode through an API

  • One answer per call. Each call is one question and one answer; results_count does not change it. A follow-up question is a new call with the context written into the query; there is no conversation thread.
  • Location by country. Send location as a two-letter country code. In our tests, city names did not reliably change ordinary Google results, so we do not promise city-level AI Mode answers.
  • Answers change. Ask the same question twice and the wording, the list order and the cited pages can differ. If you track brands, run each query several times and count mentions across runs, which is how our AI Citation Index works.
  • Sources are optional. Google left out citations in 8.7% of our probe answers; your parser must accept an empty citations list.
  • Google AI Overviews are a different field. The overview box on a normal search comes back in ai_overview with search_type=search, for the same 5 credits, and is null when Google shows none.

Try it without code in the Playground (choose SERP, then AI Mode), or see every search type on the SERP API page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which scraping API supports Google AI Mode results?

SerpApi (engine google_ai_mode), DataForSEO (AI Mode SERP API), ScrapeBadger, Bright Data, Oxylabs and Ujeebu (search_type=ai on /serp) all return Google AI Mode answers as JSON. Ujeebu charges 5 credits per answer, $0.82 to $0.33 per 1,000 on monthly plans, and returns answer_text, text_blocks and citations.

How much does a Google AI Mode API cost per 1,000 requests?

From $1.20 (DataForSEO standard queue, about 45 minutes) to $25 (SerpApi Starter). Real-time options: Ujeebu $0.82 to $0.33 depending on the plan, DataForSEO Live $4.00, SerpApi $25 down to $5.90 on its Volume plan.

Does a Google AI Mode API return the sources Google cited?

Yes, when Google shows them. Ujeebu returns them in citations with title, link, source and origin (card or inline). In 849 probe responses between October 14 and November 1, 2026, 91.3% carried at least one citation; the others were answers without sources.

What is the difference between Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews?

Google AI Overviews is the summary box above normal search results; Google AI Mode is the separate chat-style answer page. With Ujeebu, Google AI Overviews come back in ai_overview on a normal search, and AI Mode answers come back in ai_results with search_type=ai. Both cost 5 credits.

How long does a Google AI Mode API call take?

Our AI Mode probes averaged 6.35 seconds over the last 7 days to November 1, 2026, and a single call on November 1 took 8.8 seconds. Plan for longer timeouts than for web searches, which averaged 5.57 seconds on the same probes.

Am I charged when an AI Mode request fails?

Not on Ujeebu: a request that times out or fails costs 0 credits, and the Ujb-Credits response header shows what each call cost. SerpApi also does not count failed searches; DataForSEO bills per task from your balance.
