What a white IKEA BILLY bookcase, an unlocked iPhone 17 (256 GB), a month of Spotify Premium and a month of ChatGPT Plus cost on each brand's own site in 30 countries, read on October 6, 2026 and converted to US dollars at the European Central Bank's rates of that day. Prices are what a shopper sees: VAT or GST included almost everywhere, US and Canadian sales tax not. Switch the map to one item, or to the basket before VAT and GST.

How we got this data

We collected this data with the Ujeebu web scraping API, which fetches and renders public pages and returns the fields we need as structured data. The same API is available to you for your own collections.

Methodology and known limits

We read every price on October 6, 2026 from the brand's own site for each country, through the Ujeebu Scrape API, with no sign-in and at most two requests in flight. IKEA: the white BILLY bookcase, 80x28x202 cm. Most markets sell it as 002.638.50; others list the same bookcase under a newer local number (205.220.46 in the Americas, Western Europe and the Gulf, 005.220.47 in Asia, 106.165.64 in Australia), so we took the white 80x28x202 cm card from each market's BILLY category page and read its product page. Apple: the iPhone 17 at its smallest storage (256 GB; no 128 GB model is sold), unlocked, from the Apple Store page of each country. Spotify: the monthly price of Premium Individual after any free or discounted trial (in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, India and South Africa Spotify sells its single-account plan as Premium Standard; we used that). ChatGPT Plus: the monthly price the chatgpt.com pricing page shows for each country, read from the public per-country pricing configuration the page loads.

111 prices were read; 9 item and country pairs have no official price, each with its reason in the table (no IKEA store, no Apple online store, Spotify or ChatGPT not offered). Nothing was typed in: a price we could not read from the page would be a gap. Prices are converted to US dollars with the European Central Bank's euro reference rates of October 6, 2026, crossed through the euro-dollar rate. The ECB does not quote the Chilean and Colombian pesos, the dirham or the Egyptian pound: for those we used the latest rates their publishers showed that day: the Banco Central de Chile's dolar observado (October 1, 2026, as published by the SII), Colombia's official TRM (October 6, 2026), and Bank Al-Maghrib's reference rates (October 5, 2026) for the dirham and, crossed through the dollar, the Egyptian pound. The UAE dirham and the Saudi riyal are pegged to the dollar (3.6725 and 3.75).

The basket is the sum of the four dollar prices, for the countries where all four are sold; the index sets the United States at 100. Prices are as shown to shoppers: with VAT or GST in every country except the United States and Canada, where sales tax is added at checkout (ChatGPT Plus is shown before tax in a few more countries; its pricing data says which). The "before VAT and GST" measure takes out the rate OpenAI's checkout applies in each country, which is the standard VAT or GST rate there; it is left empty where that rate is not published (Brazil, Colombia, Israel, Morocco, China) and for goods in Malaysia, where that rate is a digital services tax.

Known limits

  • One day of prices (a snapshot): store promotions, Spotify trials and currency moves can change the ranking within days.
  • The iPhone is most of the basket, so the basket ranking largely reflects Apple's country prices; the item measures show each product on its own.
  • Seven countries have no full basket because one item is not sold there officially: no IKEA in Brazil or South Africa, no Apple online store in Colombia, Israel, Egypt, Morocco or South Africa (apple.com has no shop for them), and neither Spotify nor ChatGPT in China.
  • US and Canadian prices exclude sales tax, which varies by state and province; elsewhere VAT or GST is included. The pre-tax measure removes one standard rate per country and ignores reduced rates, import duties and special taxes (such as Turkey's on phones).
  • In four markets Spotify's single-account plan is Premium Standard rather than Premium Individual; Spotify sells no Premium Individual there.
